What does a Maverick window sticker prove?

The Maverick’s big choices are hidden. A hybrid and an EcoBoost truck look nearly the same. So do front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions. Those choices decide fuel use, towing and price. The original window sticker names the trim and equipment group, the engine, the transmission and the drivetrain. Every factory option appears with its price, followed by the destination charge and the total MSRP.

It also carries the EPA fuel economy label. On a Maverick that number varies a lot by powertrain, so it’s worth reading.

How do you read Maverick trims and packages?

The Maverick is a compact unibody pickup. It arrived for the 2022 model year and is built at Ford’s Hermosillo plant in Mexico. Every one is a four-door crew cab with a 4.5-foot bed.

The trims grew over time:

Years Trims and key packages
2022 XL, XLT, Lariat
2023 and 2024 XL, XLT, Lariat, with a Tremor off-road package on AWD XLT and Lariat
2025 on XL, XLT, Lariat, Tremor and Lobo as trims

Equipment groups follow Ford’s usual pattern of three digits and a letter. The first digit tracks the trim:

  • XL: 100A, with 101A and 102A in Ford’s 2025 order guide
  • XLT: 300A, 301A and 302A
  • Lariat: 500A, 501A and 502A

On a used truck, 300A is the XLT’s base group, and the higher numbers add equipment. The XLT and Lariat Luxury packages appear as their own options, separate from the group code. Codes change between years, so read the ones on your truck’s sticker.

Which powertrain and options should it have?

  • 2.5L hybrid: the standard engine on XL, XLT and Lariat. It pairs an Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder with an electric motor and an eCVT, for 191 hp combined.
  • 2.0L EcoBoost: the option, rated at 250 hp, with an 8-speed automatic. For 2025 it is standard on the Tremor and Lobo.

From 2022 to 2024, AWD was only offered with the EcoBoost. From 2025, AWD is also offered on the hybrid, and the EcoBoost comes with AWD only.

Towing depends on options. The standard rating is 2,000 lb. Up to 4,000 lb needs the 4K Tow Package, which through 2024 required the EcoBoost and AWD. For 2025, the AWD hybrid can get it too. The FX4 package, with skid plates, all-terrain tires and extra drive modes, was offered on XLT AWD EcoBoost trucks.

What should you check on a used Maverick?

  • Powertrain. Make sure the engine line on the sticker matches the truck. The free NHTSA decode should agree.
  • Drivetrain. A 2022 to 2024 hybrid sold as AWD doesn’t match what Ford offered.
  • Towing. If the seller says it tows 4,000 lb, look for the 4K Tow Package line.
  • Tremor. On 2023 and 2024 trucks it’s a package. On 2025 and later it’s the trim line.
  • Paint. The color name is on the sticker. On the Maverick, read the paint code after “EXT PNT” on the driver door-jamb label.
  • Recalls. Look up open recalls on the exact truck at nhtsa.gov/recalls. The count is in our free check, and the details are in the Full Report.

To compare hybrid and EcoBoost economy across years, fueleconomy.gov lists each Maverick configuration.

Frequently asked questions

Can a Maverick hybrid have all-wheel drive?

From the 2025 model year, yes. From 2022 to 2024, the hybrid was front-wheel drive only, and AWD came only with the 2.0L EcoBoost. The sticker names the drivetrain.

How do I know if a Maverick can tow 4,000 lb?

Look for the 4K Tow Package on the sticker. The standard rating is 2,000 lb. Up to 4,000 lb needs the package, which through 2024 also meant the EcoBoost and AWD.

Was Tremor a trim on the 2023 Maverick?

No. For 2023 Tremor was an off-road package on AWD XLT and Lariat trucks. It became its own trim for 2025.

Where is the Maverick built?

At Ford's Hermosillo Stamping and Assembly Plant in Sonora, Mexico. Production started in September 2021.
