Why check the sticker on a used Lexus?
The Monroney label on a new Lexus lists the model and grade, standard equipment, each factory option and package with its price, the destination charge, the total MSRP, EPA fuel economy and the assembly plant. Lexus builds a lot of equipment into its packages, so on a used car the sticker is the most reliable way to see which ones were ordered: premium audio, advanced driver assistance, larger wheels or a Luxury package’s upgraded interior.
How do you tell a factory F Sport?
Lexus model names tell you the body type, and the number after them usually tracks the powertrain (for example, RX 350 and RX 350h, where the h marks a hybrid).
| Type | Models |
|---|---|
| Sedans and coupes | ES, IS, LC |
| Crossovers and SUVs | UX, NX, RX, TX, GX, LX |
| Electric | RZ |
Lexus grades repeat across the range. You’ll see Premium, Luxury and F Sport most often. Some models add F Sport Handling, which adds handling hardware to the F Sport look; the 2025 TX added an F Sport Handling grade, for example. Because F Sport styling parts are easy to buy and fit, the sticker is the only clean proof that a car is a factory F Sport.
Was my Lexus built in Japan or North America?
Most Lexus models come from Japan, but not all of them:
- RX and NX: also built at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada in Cambridge, Ontario.
- TX: built at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana in Princeton, Indiana.
A VIN starting with J was built in Japan, one starting with 2 in Canada, and one starting with 4 or 5 in the United States. The free NHTSA decode reports the assembly plant where NHTSA has it, and the original sticker always names it.
Where are the VIN and C/TR paint code on a Lexus?
- VIN plate: on the dash by the windshield, driver’s side. It’s also on the label in the Lexus’s driver’s door opening.
- Paint code: Lexus uses the same system as Toyota. On the label in the driver’s door opening, find C/TR. The first three characters after it give the exterior paint code. The code after the slash is the interior trim. For example, 212 is Obsidian and 077 is Starfire Pearl.
A Lexus VIN doesn’t include the paint code, and our paint code guide explains why. The Toyota paint code page explains the C/TR label in more detail, and the same reading applies to a Lexus.
How do I get a Lexus window sticker by VIN?
Enter the 17-character VIN and our licensed window-sticker data partner checks whether it has the original sticker for that Lexus. That answer comes before payment. The NHTSA decode, trim (Lexus calls it the grade) and recall count are free, and nhtsa.gov/recalls shows open recalls on the exact car. If the sticker is on file, the $9.99 Full Report adds the original PDF, the packages and every option with its price, the paint code where we can match it, and full recall details. Coverage differs by model year and market. If we show a sticker as available and then can’t provide it, you get an automatic refund.
If none is on file: a Lexus dealer can look up the original build from the VIN, and the Lexus Brand Engagement Center is at 1-800-255-3987. Lexus’s owner site is My Lexus. The original purchase agreement usually lists the grade and packages. For decoded build data without a sticker, see the Toyota build sheet page, or compare with its Toyota relatives on the Toyota window sticker page.
