Coverage: Varies by model year; best coverage for recent model years
Is that Silverado a Trail Boss or an LT with Z71 badges?
Chevy trims and packages are easy to misread from badges alone. On the Silverado 1500, recent model years have run from WT up to High Country and ZR2, with Trail Boss versions in between. Our Silverado window sticker page lists every trim. The lineup changes between model years, so the sticker is the only reliable source for a specific truck.
Points to check on a Silverado:
- RST is the street-styled trim, not an off-road package.
- Z71 is an off-road package available across several trims. A Z71 badge alone doesn’t tell you the trim.
- LT Trail Boss is a distinct trim that includes the Z71 Off-Road Package with a factory 2-inch suspension lift. It isn’t the same as an LT with Z71 badges.
- ZR2 is the top off-road trim.
Because NHTSA’s decode may report only “LT” for some of these trucks, the sticker settles which trim you’re looking at. See what trim is my car for more.
What do Chevy RPO codes like Z71 and L87 mean?
Every GM vehicle is built from a list of Regular Production Option (RPO) codes. Each code is three characters, letters and numbers, and stands for one option, package or component. A few you’ll see on Chevy trucks:
| RPO code | What it is |
|---|---|
| Z71 | Off-road package (off-road suspension, skid plates, hill descent control and badging, depending on model and year) |
| L87 | 6.2L V8 engine |
The window sticker describes options in plain English with prices. The RPO list is the factory’s shorthand for the same build. If you have both, they should agree. Our GM build sheet page explains how to read the RPO list in more detail.
Where is the RPO label on a Chevy?
For decades, GM printed the RPO list on a Service Parts Identification (SPID) label. It’s usually inside the glove box. On some models it’s on the console lid or under the trunk lid. It shows the VIN, the model and a grid of three-character RPO codes, and the paint code usually sits near the bottom.
Beginning with the 2018 model year, GM added a QR code to the certification label on Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC vehicles. According to GM’s technician publication, the label is on the driver-side B-pillar (on the Corvette, it’s on the driver’s door), and scanning the QR code gives the information that was on the SPID label, including RPO codes. The paint code is also printed next to the QR code. Labels on some trucks sit lower in the door jamb, so check both spots.
Looking for a Corvette sticker?
Corvette buyers care about options more than most, because packages such as the Z51 Performance Package change a car’s value. We have a dedicated Corvette window sticker page covering what to look for.
Where are the VIN and paint code on a Chevy?
The VIN is on the dashboard at the base of the windshield (driver’s side), on the driver-side certification label, and on your title, registration and insurance card.
The VIN doesn’t include the paint code; our paint code guide explains why. Look on the SPID label for older vehicles or next to the QR code on 2018-and-later certification labels. GM paint codes are often written with a “WA” or “U” prefix in front of the number, and both forms refer to the same color. Our GM paint code page has more.
Can I get a Chevy window sticker by VIN?
We get original Chevrolet stickers through a licensed window-sticker data partner. Enter the VIN and we check, free, whether a sticker is on file for that exact vehicle. You see the answer before you pay anything.
The NHTSA decode is always free. It gives year, model, trim, series, body, engine, drivetrain, fuel and assembly plant where reported, plus the count of NHTSA recall campaigns for that model and year. You can check open recalls on the exact VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
When a sticker is on file, the $9.99 Full Report adds the original sticker PDF, the MSRP breakdown (base price, options total, destination), every factory option and package with its original price, the paint code and full recall details. It’s a one-time payment, with no subscription or account. Coverage varies by model year and market. If we show a sticker as available and can’t deliver it, you’re refunded automatically.
If there’s no Chevy sticker on file:
- Ask the selling dealer, who may have a copy or the original order.
- Call Chevrolet Customer Assistance on 1-800-222-1020 with the VIN, or start from Chevrolet support.
- Look through the purchase paperwork, which sometimes includes the sticker.
- Read the RPO list from the SPID label or QR code to confirm the options.
