Coverage: No original-sticker source for Mercedes-Benz; free NHTSA decode for all model years
Can you get a Mercedes window sticker by VIN?
Not here. We can’t pull the original window sticker for a Mercedes-Benz. There’s no Mercedes sticker source behind this tool, so we don’t offer one, and we won’t present a rebuilt page as the original.
What you get free on any Mercedes VIN:
- NHTSA vPIC decode: model year, model, series, body, engine, drivetrain, fuel and assembly plant where reported
- Recall count: the number of NHTSA recall campaigns for that model and year, with a link to nhtsa.gov to check open recalls on the exact VIN
- Decoded build data: labeled “decoded data, not the original sticker”
The plant field tells you something on a Mercedes. Several U.S.-market SUVs, including the GLE and GLS, are built in Vance, Alabama, while most sedans and coupes come from Germany.
Is the Mercedes data card the same as the sticker?
No. The data card is the factory build record: the model designation, paint and upholstery codes and a column of three-character option codes, with no prices. A Mercedes-Benz dealer can usually look it up from the VIN, and our Mercedes build sheet page explains how to read it.
What’s the difference between AMG and AMG Line?
Mercedes uses the model name instead of trim words. A name like C 300 4MATIC gives you the class (C-Class), a number that indicates the power level, and 4MATIC for all-wheel drive. Mercedes-AMG models (such as AMG C 43 or AMG GLE 53) are the performance versions, and an “AMG Line” package is an appearance and sport package on a regular model, not an AMG car. Electric models use the EQ names, such as EQE and EQS.
Equipment beyond the base car comes in packages, with names like the Premium Package, the Driver Assistance Package and the AMG Line, depending on model and year. Because so much is package-based, two cars with the same badge can be equipped very differently.
Where to find the Mercedes VIN
- Bottom of the windshield, driver’s side
- The certification label in the driver’s door jamb
- Title, registration and insurance card
Where is the paint code on a Mercedes-Benz?
The VIN doesn’t carry the paint code. On most newer Mercedes-Benz models, it is on the label in the driver’s door jamb. On many older models, look for a plate in the engine bay, often on the crossmember above the radiator. Mercedes paint codes are three digits, for example 197 for Obsidian Black Metallic. Special designo colors use their own codes. Our paint code page explains how codes relate to color names.
Who can find the original Mercedes sticker?
- Original paperwork. First owners often kept the sticker with the purchase contract.
- The selling Mercedes-Benz dealer. The store that sold the car new may still have the deal file, and can usually print the data card.
- Mercedes-Benz USA Customer Assistance Center. Call 1-800-367-6372 with the VIN. Owner resources are on mbusa.com.
- The dealer listing. Late-model used Mercedes listings often include the sticker. Save it while it’s online.
A data card won’t show original prices like a Monroney label does, but it confirms the build.
What to check on a used Mercedes-Benz
- AMG versus AMG Line. Badges are easy to add. Check the decoded engine and series against the badge on the trunk.
- Package features. Match listed packages to hardware such as the Burmester sound system, a head-up display or the panoramic roof.
- 4MATIC. Confirm the drivetrain in the decode if the listing says all-wheel drive.
- Recalls. Follow the nhtsa.gov link in your results to check this Mercedes, or type the VIN in at nhtsa.gov/recalls. Mercedes-Benz dealers do recall repairs free.
- Certified pre-owned. If sold as Mercedes-Benz CPO, ask for the inspection report and remaining coverage dates.
What do you get for $9.99 on a Mercedes?
On a Mercedes-Benz, the $9.99 Full Report collects the decoded build data, owner complaint counts and full recall details (what’s wrong, the risk, the fix) in one PDF. The link to it is permanent. Option prices and a matched paint code aren’t included. It’s a one-time payment, with no subscription or account. For Mercedes-Benz it does not include the original sticker. See our refund policy.
