Coverage: Varies by model year; the free check tells you if your VIN is on file
What does the Kia sticker show that the listing doesn’t?
A used Kia listing usually gives the model and maybe the trim. The original window sticker gives the whole build as it left the factory: the trim (LX, S, EX, SX, SX-Prestige, X-Line or X-Pro on the SUVs), every factory option and package with its price, the paint, the destination charge and the total MSRP. That’s how you tell an SX-Prestige from an SX with a few dealer extras, or confirm a Telluride really has the X-Pro package.
How do I check a Kia VIN here?
Paste the 17 characters into the box above. The free part is instant: NHTSA’s decoder names the model, series, engine and plant, and we count the recall campaigns for that Kia year. Then we ask our licensed sticker partner if it holds this car’s original label.
If it does, $9.99 gets you the label as a PDF, every package and option with its price, and the paint code. A Telluride X-Pro or a Sorento SX-Prestige is easy to confirm that way. If it doesn’t, you see that before checkout, and a sticker we can’t deliver after payment is refunded.
What do the first letters of a Kia VIN mean?
The first three characters show where the vehicle was built. Kia VINs starting with KN were built in Korea. Many U.S.-market Telluride, Sorento and Sportage models are built in West Point, Georgia, and start with 5X. NHTSA’s decode tells you the exact plant for your VIN.
Which Kia trims are easy to mix up?
- SX vs SX-Prestige: Prestige usually adds features like ventilated seats, a head-up display and upgraded audio. The sticker lists what was fitted.
- X-Line vs X-Pro: both are styling and capability packages on the SUVs. X-Pro adds all-terrain tires and more off-road kit.
- GT-Line vs GT: GT-Line is a styling trim. GT is the performance version with a different engine or motor.
Kia recalls
The free check shows how many NHTSA recall campaigns cover that model and year. To see whether a recall is still open on the exact car, enter the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls or in the Kia owners portal. Open recalls are fixed free at any Kia dealer.
If there’s no Kia sticker on file
The free decode, trim and recall count still work for every Kia. For the paint, read the label in the driver’s door jamb. See our paint code guide for how to match it to touch-up paint.
